Council raises overnight parking fine to $25 to match neighboring communities

The Green Tree Borough Council voted July 7 to increase the borough's overnight parking fine from $15 to $25 as part of an update to the schedule of fines.
Public safety committee representatives said the $15 fine had not changed since 1997 and that the proposed increase aligns Green Tree with surrounding communities. Committee members also reported a higher-than-expected number of parking citations: 285 notices issued from Jan. 1 through June 3, 2025 (about 57 per month) for borough-level parking tags; state citations were recorded separately.
The borough's practice is to treat payment of a borough parking tag as a local fine; if not paid it may convert to a citation handled by the magisterial district court. Council members asked how parking fine revenue is used; the response was that these fines are recorded in the borough's general fund.
Council conducted a roll-call vote and adopted Resolution 1368 to update the schedule of fines, including the overnight parking fine increase.
