Council greenlights $13,700 purchase of six filter rate controllers for treatment plant

The Oak Creek Common Council approved an agreement with J & W Instruments Inc. for the purchase of six filter rate controllers in the amount of $13,700.
A utility staff member said the existing filter controllers have been failing and repairs have been unsuccessful; buttons are wearing out and parts are no longer repairable. The controllers the staff recommended did not link readily to the existing SCADA system at first, so the utility will start with six units to test integration before replacing the remainder. "We need about 20 ultimately, but because of the struggles we've had on getting it connected and integrated in our system, we wanna start with 6 and see how they work," the staff member said.
Staff described this as a proof-of-concept or two-phase approach: install six, confirm integration and function, then replace the rest. The council moved, seconded and approved the purchase on roll call.
