Courtney Holthouse addressed the Tumwater City Council during the public-comment portion of the July 1 meeting and described an ongoing dispute with her former employer and the assistant attorney general who represented that employer in a federal lawsuit.
Holthouse said that when she reported the assistant attorney general's alleged ableist remarks about her mental-health challenges, "suddenly, the room seemed dead silent," and that the Attorney General's Office later sent her a letter denying her tort claim. She told the council the response and the denial left her feeling ignored and urged the council to hold officials accountable. "If you're going to pretend to protect people but won't call out ableism when it's coming straight from your own city, then you're nothing but a bunch of hypocrites," Holthouse said.
The council listened to public comment; no formal action or staff response is recorded in the transcript for this item.
