Nassau board honors multiple Schools of Excellence; district explains state criteria

The Nassau County School Board recognized a number of district campuses as Florida Department of Education "Schools of Excellence" and presented certificates and banners.
Dr. Burns explained the state standard for the designation: a school's percentage of possible points in its grade calculation must be in the 80th percentile or higher among schools with the same grade groupings for at least two of the last three years, and schools may retain the designation for up to three years before renewing. The board called administrators and staff from Emma Love Hardy Elementary, Bryceville Elementary, Hilliard Elementary, Calhoun Intermediate, Callahan Middle School, Nido Beach Middle School, Yulee Middle School and others to receive certificates; several schools were recognized for multiple consecutive years.
Board members praised teachers and principals for their work and noted the district-wide benefits of arts and extracurricular programs. The board handed out certificates and photographs were planned for the record.
