Board awards $47,866 contract for Don Cardone Bridge interpretive panels

The Spokane Park Board voted unanimously to award a $47,866.05 construction contract to Kruger Sheet Metal Company to fabricate and install interpretive, cut-metal panels on the Don Cardone Bridge.
Nick (parks staff) described the panels as weathering-steel cut-metal interpretive units placed into existing bridge overlooks to tell the stories of partner organizations such as Gonzaga University, Friends of the Centennial Trail and the Spokane Lilac Bloomsday Association. The signage package includes QR codes linking to online content and an informational call-to-action encouraging support for the Centennial Trail.
Two bids were received; Kruger was the low apparent bidder and the price came in significantly under the project's $130,000 allowance. Staff said Berger Partnership will review shop drawings and quality controls during fabrication. The board moved and approved the contract by voice vote. Staff indicated the work is required by October but anticipates earlier completion.
Board members noted anti-graffiti coatings will be applied to help preserve the panels and thanked donor partners for their contributions to the bridge project.
