Airport summarizes extensive winter hangar repairs and revitalization work

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District outlined a large repair and revitalization effort Dec. 4 after a record snow event damaged multiple hangar roofs and structural elements.
Management said the district and contractors spent months identifying and repairing bowed roofs, replacing purlins and beams where needed, shoring affected hangars to prevent further damage, and performing full roof replacements on selected rows. The work required temporarily relocating aircraft, coordinating inspections and moving aircraft back as repairs finished.
The district also described an ongoing hangar revitalization program: selective tenants had hangars renovated with new floor sealing, upgraded lighting, demarcation striping and hazmat containment to create model hangars that will be returned to tenants. GM staff said the multi-year approach is intended to improve the existing inventory before pursuing new hangar construction.
Director-level board members toured the repairs during the work and several thanked staff and contractors for managing a complex "Jenga"-style operation of moving aircraft between locations. Staff said the last aircraft were being returned to hangars and the wait list for hangars stands at just under 100 names.
