The Orem City Council approved a resolution consenting to nighttime construction on Geneva Road after a presentation from state project staff who described the scope, timing and safeguards.
Staff said the purpose of allowing limited night work is to reduce daytime traffic impacts on a multi-lane widening project. Night work would be used selectively for full crossings and activities that are safer or quicker when traffic is restricted. The project area runs south from University Parkway, past the temple property with a five-lane cross-section and additional tapering south of the widening. Staff estimated advertisement in the near term, a contractor hired in six to eight weeks, and approximately a season-and-a-half construction period depending on contractor schedule.
The council heard the same noise and saw-cutting restrictions used on previous night-work approvals (the previous 1600 North project was cited as precedent). Staff committed to advance notification, door-hanger outreach to adjacent residences, a project hotline and email, and targeted coordination with homeowners associations. Council members asked for the project webpage and hotline information; staff said they would circulate it.
A council member moved to approve the consent-item resolution for Geneva Road nighttime work; the motion carried on a voice vote. Council and staff emphasized that night work would be limited, announced in advance and accompanied by outreach and complaint-handling procedures.
