Orem council consents to Alpine School District sale of student-built CTE house

The Orem City Council voted to approve a resolution consenting to the sale of a home built by Alpine School District Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.
City staff and the assistant city attorney explained the property at 765 South 800 West in Orem was built during the 2023-24 school year by students in the districts CTE homebuilding program. Under state law the school district must secure consent from all city councils within the new reorganized school district before disposing of district real property; in this case the affected municipal councils are Linden, Pleasant Grove, Vineyard and Orem. Staff said Linden, Pleasant Grove and Vineyard had already given consent.
The district reported the house is under contract; proceeds will go back into the CTE program to buy materials and fund future student-built homes. Staff emphasized the sale proceeds are earmarked for the CTE program that operates out of Timpanogos High School and related CTE sites.
During the councils regular meeting a council member moved approval and the motion carried by voice vote. The resolution passed, and staff will notify Alpine School District of the councils consent.
