Residents press board on leadership, petitions and personnel during public comment

A cluster of public comments at the Jan. 27 Schuylkill Valley board meeting focused on district leadership, personnel decisions and a petition circulated in the community. Carol Wiens, a former board president, said staff concerns alleging poor leadership have been dismissed and announced she will run for the board. Several other speakers criticized the handling of personnel and ethics questions, asked about alleged conflicts of interest, and urged the board to address petitions presented previously.
Shannon O’Donnell, a former principal and longtime resident, pushed back on what she described as "false narratives," noting low teacher turnover at the elementary school and putting petition signature counts in context (she cited 676 signatures equating to roughly 5% of adult residents). Beth Hoover, a resident, raised questions about administrative pay rates and purchases made by an interim athletic director, and she requested the board address a petition demanding the superintendent’s resignation.
Board members acknowledged receipt of petitions and correspondence and said some matters were previously discussed in committee. The meeting continued into its agenda with committee reports, consolidated motions and votes.
