Council distributes Grand Prairie's votes for county appraisal boards after candidate presentations

The City Council allocated Grand Prairie’s allotted votes for three appraisal-district boards at its Nov. 4 meeting.
Staff explained that the city has 27 votes in the Tarrant Appraisal District, 22 in the Dallas Central Appraisal District and eight in the Ellis Appraisal District. Several nominated candidates attended and addressed the council before votes were allocated.
After discussion and a motion from the dais, the council divided its Tarrant County votes among three nominees, assigning the largest share to Syeda Saeed and to Eric Crowell (the motion as amended resulted in a distribution that gave Saeed 17 votes and Crowell eight votes). The council split Dallas County allocations to give one vote to each of 13 candidates and apportioned Ellis County votes evenly (2 votes to each of four candidates). The motion to adopt the allocations passed on a council vote after an amendment and hand-count vote.
Council members who supported concentrated allocations said they wanted to reward candidates who regularly engage with Grand Prairie and demonstrate familiarity with appraisal administration; members who opposed broader allocations cited concerns about awarding votes to candidates with limited local engagement.
