Riverwoods approves two Tesco design contracts for Deerfield Road landscaping and Port Wine path

Deerfield Road landscaping: Wood said Tesco’s scope (Exhibit A) covers planning and technical support to develop conceptual design options ahead of anticipated County work in 2027. Staff recommended a contract not to exceed $25,000 to prepare concepts and initial design materials. Trustee Grama described the work as ‘‘the beginning’’ of a long-term plan to ensure Deerfield Road reflects village character. The motion to approve the Tesco Deerfield Road proposal passed on roll call.
Port Wine Road multi-use path: Wood described the Port Wine Road path as an item in the 2006 comprehensive plan and a high-ranking request from the Land Use Strategy Committee and stormwater-management discussions. Staff said the likely concept is an elevated multi-use path on the west side of the street above the ditch to improve safety and connectivity; the proposal would fund conceptual designs and public review materials for up to $24,500. Trustee Clayton asked how much it would take to reach a shovel-ready design; Wood said the initial review will define pier and railing choices, soft costs and further engineering needs. The motion to approve the Tesco Port Wine Road proposal passed on roll call.
Why it matters: both contracts are planning-phase work meant to produce conceptual designs that can be used to engineer projects, secure grants, or inform future bid packages. The Port Wine concept is tied to stormwater management priorities and long-standing comprehensive-plan goals.
