Superintendent says no Berkeley County schools rated unsatisfactory; district highlights hiring event and modest gains

Superintendent Dr. Dixon told the board Nov. 3 that the South Carolina 2024–25 school report cards showed no Berkeley County schools rated unsatisfactory and that many schools improved or maintained ratings.
Dr. Dixon said 100% of Berkeley County high schools were rated average, good or excellent; several individual schools received an "excellent" overall rating, including Daniel Island School (pre-K–8), Marrington Elementary and Philip Simmons High School. The superintendent said district high schools experienced a 1.9 percentage-point increase in graduation rates, bringing the district average to 86.2% (state average reported around 86.6–86.7%). Dr. Dixon also reported a decline in chronic absenteeism from 24.6% to about 23%.
On staffing and operations, Dr. Dixon described a large fall hiring event that attracted more than 600 registrants and nearly 300 attendees, with strong interest in transportation and child nutrition positions as the district prepares to open two new schools in 2026.
Dr. Dixon also noted Head Start and pre-K counts and encouraged community support for the Berkeley Wonderland holiday sponsorship program managed by student support services.
