Town staff presented maps and context for two proposed open-space acquisitions, identified in warrant articles as the Kofsky Farm and the Pascalski parcels. The parcels were shown in maps highlighting larger parcels and the purple areas where an entrance and parking might be sited in the future. Staff said the primary purpose of acquisition is open space preservation rather than development.
Manager noted the town is prepared to examine uses such as trail access, limited parking, and passive recreation; he said a community-based committee would be appointed to consider long-term uses but that the town is not purchasing the land to undertake immediate large-scale development. The town acknowledged the option of selling or renting the front houses on the parcels, but said that would be decided later after further study.
The acquisitions remain contingent on final appraisals and timing is tight to meet warrant timelines; staff said if appraisals or wetlands reviews are delayed, the purchase could be delayed until spring. Board members acknowledged open-space and legacy value and asked staff to prepare appraisal and valuation materials to present at Town Meeting.
