Zachary White of the Hancock County Extension office told the Hancock County Commission on Thursday, Oct. 23 that the county’s 4‑H program has seen a strong start this year, with about 50 youth registered so far in October and a projection of roughly 150 by year‑end if current trends continue.
White said the extension brought copies of a master gardener garden calendar that covers Jefferson, Columbiana, Beaver, Hancock and Brooke counties and distributed copies to commissioners. He also provided a Community Education Outreach Services (CEOS) lesson on Newell Fiesta that will be shared statewide through CEOS lesson materials.
"Our 4‑H program is doing great. We had a great first month here in October. We're sitting in about 50 who've registered so far," White said. "So we'll probably see about a 150 at the end of the year if the trend keeps going." He noted the master gardener calendar and the CEOS materials were provided so the county’s outreach and community education efforts are represented across the state.
Commissioner Cowie thanked White for his outreach work and for increasing youth participation in extension programs. The presentation was brief and no formal action was required.
