Middletown seeks additional information for McDonough and Kegwin school renovation grants

The City of Middletown Board of Education’s budget committee was briefed Oct. 14 that grant applications for McDonough Elementary and Kegwin were submitted Sept. 29 and require follow-up information before the Department of Administrative Services will proceed.
"This morning, Dr. V received from the Department of Administrative Services a request for a little bit of additional information on both projects," said Natalie Forbes, the district’s executive director of finance. She said the district met with Marco Gaylord and planned to meet with architects and the McDonough building committee to assemble responses.
The Department of Administrative Services has asked the district to amend the education specifications for McDonough and to enlarge the project description. Forbes said the district will aim to complete the required updates by the end of the week and that Dr. Matos has asked that the item be added to the special board meeting if necessary.
Forbes described the grants as subject to the usual legislative sections and approvals required by state process and said staff will continue to provide documents requested by DAS with the goal of a successful application.
If the district cannot assemble the materials in time for the scheduled special meeting, Forbes said it will hold an additional special meeting before the end of the week to approve any required amendments.
