Emery County approves revised BLM law-enforcement contract that guarantees payments

Under the new arrangement described at the meeting, the BLM will guarantee a payment schedule (monthly or per pay period) rather than paying on an hourly basis, and it will require the county to commit a certain number of hours. County staff said the guaranteed payments result in a higher annual payment while the county's required commitment of hours is roughly the same or somewhat less than previously required. Staff also said reporting requirements will be simplified under the new contract.
Commissioners approved the contract by voice vote. The sheriff's office will complete contract paperwork and manage the scheduling commitments required under the agreement.
