Bannock County approves local upfitting plan for two new plow trucks

Bannock County commissioners voted to proceed with a procurement strategy to acquire two new plow trucks, approving purchase of two chassis from Kenworth and local upfitting by Diesel Depot of American Falls.
Buddy Romrell, public works assistant director, told commissioners the plan grew from last year’s procurement problems and offers faster delivery and better oversight. "If I order them today, they'll have a build date of two weeks from today, and then they take approximately two to three weeks to build," Romrell said, adding that Diesel Depot expects about one month to six weeks to finish upfitting once the chassis arrive.
The county compared bed lead times and vendor options; Romrell said ordering beds through a utility source would have a 14-month wait while Diesel Depot could supply comparable light beds in about three weeks. Kyle Burmister, public works director, said staff had checked pricing across vendors and valued the ability to monitor weld and upfit quality locally.
Commissioner Jeff Hoff moved to approve the recommended procurement approach. The motion carried on a voice vote with commissioners responding "aye." The board and staff noted Diesel Depot’s prior warranty work responding promptly to issues on a county water truck.
Commissioners directed staff to provide specific total-cost estimates to the board as they become available and to proceed with the Kenworth chassis purchase and local upfitting plan.
