The Carroll County Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 21 to approve a budget amendment that will allow the district to purchase eight additional full-size buses.
Superintendent Scott Cowher summarized that the district had previously approved $875,000 in the general fund for bus purchases. A state allotment was reported to the board, and the additional funding approved at the meeting will let the district increase the purchase from an earlier estimate (approximately five buses) to eight buses. The board approved adding $43,072 (as stated in the meeting) to the local funding; the planned amendment will be incorporated in Budget Amendment No. 1 when presented in December.
Board members confirmed the buses would be air-conditioned and run on regular gasoline, per the transportation staff. The motion to approve the budget amendment for the eight additional buses was made, seconded and carried unanimously by voice/raised hands.
