The Rockingham County Board of Elections adopted a resolution Aug. 19 temporarily transferring voters at specified annexed addresses in Reidsville into the McCoy Precinct for the upcoming municipal election.
The chair read the resolution, citing "General Statute 160 three-one 128 a, election laws of North Carolina," language granting the county board authority to temporarily transfer voters for municipal voting purposes. The resolution names specific addresses on Rocky Ford Road and Bob White Drive to be assigned to McCoy Precinct at Reasonable Alliance Church polling location for the Reidsville municipal election.
Paula Saemstra, Director of Elections, said the transfer applies only to the city municipal election and is effective immediately upon adoption. She added the number of affected voters increased from four to nine for this action, and noted that if the State Board approves new precinct lines in the future, such temporary transfers may not be necessary.
The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote. The transfers will be effective for the municipal election only and the affected voters will be notified in writing.
