Board narrows 2025–26 priorities to five areas; asks staff to craft measurable goals and action plans

Trustees reviewed outcomes from an Aug. 4 study session and worked through a proposed set of five strategic priorities for 2025–26: student achievement; strong relationships (prosocial learning environments); leadership development; safety, health and wellness; and fiscal responsibility/operational effectiveness.
Board members emphasized that the priorities must translate into clear, measurable goals aligned with the district’s LCAP and school plans. Trustees asked staff to provide an action-plan template that links each priority to specific measures, timelines and responsible staff. Several trustees said measurable targets should include closing achievement gaps and tracking the effect of extracurricular engagement on attendance and outcomes.
Administrators and board members discussed how to align school plans, the LCAP and board goals so the district can review midyear progress and adjust actions. Assistant superintendents said site plans already include metrics; the request was for district-level aggregation and a one-page action plan per priority.
The board tabled the governance handbook update (n6) to the next meeting to allow staff time to incorporate the recommended goal language and finalize the document for board review. Trustees asked staff to return draft goals and action plans two weeks after the meeting so the board can review and adopt language for insertion into the governance handbook.
