HUB reports progress on Roane County fiber project; 40 miles installed and 7,400 homes targeted

Heath Lewis of HUB told the commission the fiber buildout supported in part by a county appropriation is progressing on schedule. "At this point, we're about 40 we've installed about 40 miles of fiber in Roane County," Lewis said, and added the project budget is about $26 million and is projected to be completed within the next 18 months.
Lewis said installation has begun in a number of corridors (Riggs Chapel Road, Oakdale Highway, Swan Pond Circle loop, Webster Pike) and work is moving toward the Dallas area. He said huts in the downtown area are being equipped and that customers in early served areas are expected to come online in the next two to three months. HUB projects the network will pass roughly 7,400 homes and will offer residential packages up to multi-gigabit speeds alongside commercial offerings.
Commissioners thanked HUB for the work and asked about anticipated customer counts and pricing; Lewis provided a summary of package tiers and said commercial packages and special-case consultations will be available.
