Local teachers take part in Roane County nuclear workforce professional development

Justin Snow, president and CEO of Runaways, and Jennifer Brown, director of education and workforce development, briefed the commission on a recent professional development day that took a group of teachers, guidance counselors and administrators to multiple nuclear-sector sites. Snow distributed a printed president's report and encouraged commissioners to review it for details and photos of the July 28 visit.
Jennifer Brown described the day as a multi-site program in which educators rotated among several locations to learn about student opportunities, internship programs, field-trip possibilities and how to bring industry representatives into classrooms. She described the materials given to participants and noted the event has received state, national and international attention. "You can scan those QR codes, read the full articles," she told commissioners, referencing take-home materials included in the packet.
County leaders praised the event as a way to connect classroom instruction with local industry needs. The county executive and several commissioners urged continued partnership between the county, schools and industry to grow local workforce pipelines.
