The Henrico County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 adopted a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Recovery Month, citing prevention, treatment and community supports for people recovering from substance use disorders.
Chair Daniel J. Schmidt signed the proclamation after staff and local behavioral‑health partners described services and programs. County staff and community partners at the podium included Sarah Perkins Smith (Community Corrections), Shelby Johnson (Community Corrections), Chris Jacobs (Community Corrections), Laura Tati (Director of Mental Health), Christine Campbell (MHDS board member) and Leslie Martin (Director for Substance Use).
Speakers summarized local supports including recovery housing funds, Narcan distribution, the county’s recovery court and specialty dockets, mobile subunits, reentry services and the Empower Henrico task force. A regional Recovery Day event was announced for Sept. 3 at the Sports and Events Center. Presenters emphasized that the month is both celebratory and an opportunity to spotlight that recovery is possible and that community supports improve outcomes.
