Council approves Cedar Park Sculpture Garden 2025–26 cohort, staff notes material suitability and a substitution

City arts and parks staff presented recommended selections for the Cedar Park Sculpture Garden 2025–26 display year and the council approved the cohort during the Aug. 7 meeting.
Staff received 25 submissions, evaluated them on aesthetics, variety, outdoor suitability, potential sales price and a preference for local artists. The recommended works were: Let Your Ideas Fly (powder‑coated steel) by Andre Leibler Purvis; Entropy of a Tree (upcycled wood) by Anthony May; End Balance (steel and bronze) by Warren Kuller; and Fierce School (iron and steel) by Mike Bennett. Staff also designated Sentinel (ceramics) by Nell Mercado as an alternate, but later noted a materials substitution to favor outdoor durability and made a corresponding swap between primary and alternate pieces in staff recommendations.
Staff told council they will finalize display agreements with artists, coordinate removals of outgoing works and install the new cohort in October; prizes for the cohort (first, second, third and honorable mention) will be awarded at the Taste of Cedar Park event.
Council approved the staff recommendation unanimously.
