City to reconstruct sidewalks on 1800 block of Second Street; utilities and tree clearances noted

City capital projects engineering staff presented the 1800 Second Street sidewalks project to the DRC on Aug. 6. The project scope is to reconstruct and improve sidewalks and ADA accessibility along the block, and to replace existing trees and planting areas with more sustainable selections to reduce future sidewalk damage.
Rich Wells, utilities reviewer, advised that trees cannot be planted over wastewater laterals and provided specific requirements for removing abandoned AC water main sections where planters are proposed (sleeving and grouting of removed sections). Engineering asked the applicant to clarify sidewalk easement locations and whether easement permissions from property owners have been executed. The City Arborist reminded project staff to obtain a tree removal permit for impacted trees and offered on‑site coordination if landscape revisions are necessary.
Transportation reviewers requested that curb radii and crosswalks be updated to match revised curb geometry and to improve ADA ramp alignments. DRC staff said a partial sign‑off would be issued and that the project team should respond to outstanding DRC reviewer comments.
