Fort Pierce commissioners table proposed salary increase for city clerk until Aug. 18 budget workshop

Staff presented item 11c proposing an annual salary of $160,000 for Cox effective Oct. 1, 2025, noting that amount would be inclusive of a cost‑of‑living adjustment provided to other employees. Commissioners expressed support for Cox’s performance and for correcting long‑standing pay disparities for charter officers, but several said the near‑term budget picture and an anticipated special election expense made the proposed timing and size of the increase problematic.
Commissioner Johnson moved to table the item until the commission’s Aug. 18 meeting so the commission can review updated budget information at a scheduled budget workshop and consider staged increases or alternative approaches. The motion carried by roll call. Commissioners asked staff to present options that would partially adjust compensation now while leaving open the remainder pending midyear budget review.
No final salary action was taken on Aug. 4.
