Troy City Council and staff said they will publish a schedule of town halls, community events and a frequently asked questions page to answer resident questions about a proposed bond package that includes library improvements.
Multiple public commenters urged the city to correct an online discrepancy showing a $112 million bond figure when the council-approved ballot language asks for $137 million. Council members and city staff said the incorrect"ghost" result was related to search indexing and that a corrected bond information page is live on the city site. Communications staff said they are finalizing a schedule of outreach events (varying times and locations), will staff booths at community events, host informational town halls and post an FAQ for residents.
Public commenters also questioned pre-ballot spending for a proposed library project. A resident, David Niffin, said he was astounded by a report that council had authorized as much as $322,000 for studies and preliminary analysis on a $75 million library proposal and asked whether those funds would be lost if voters reject the bond. Council members responded that some planning and study costs are incurred to prepare ballot materials and that staff and the finance team will be available at outreach events to explain financing and the consequences of different vote outcomes. Council emphasized the city will continue to provide information so residents can make an informed decision.
Council and staff made no new financial commitments at the July 28 meeting; no additional bond language or ballot action was taken tonight.
