County staff told commissioners about approximately $37,000 remaining in a NASI parks-and-recreation fund and proposed using it to expand parking at the Barton/Kabartan boat put-in and improve the takeout access.
Staff said the county is working with a surveyor on an adjacent Asbrook Trust parcel and requested roughly a 320-foot-by-50-foot strip to expand parking on the north side of the road, which would reduce parking on the highway. The current takeout access is a narrow dirt track that can leave vehicles high-centered when launching trailers; staff said improving that access could be eligible for grant funding and that coordination with the private takeout owner should be part of the plan.
Commissioners and staff discussed consolidation of disparate fees (put-in fee and takeout fee) and working with local partners on a collaborative solution. No final motion was recorded in the meeting minutes; staff said they would continue work with surveyors and potential funding sources.
