Valley County appoints Allison Rohner to Recreation Board after candidate interviews

Valley County commissioners interviewed two finalists for a single vacancy on the Valley County Recreation Board and voted to appoint Allison Rohner to the board.

Allison Rohner, a physical therapist at Cascade Medical Center who said she has lived in Valley County seven years, told commissioners she would advocate for recreation access for all ages, pay attention to water quality and pathways, and help balance motorized and nonmotorized uses. Rohner described personal experience with skiing, snowmobiling and family recreation and said Cascade-area connections would help the board’s outreach.

Commissioners discussed both finalists’ strengths. Michael Kaminsky, a nurse anesthetist who described interests in climbing, skiing and an indoor recreation facility, was praised for enthusiasm and program ideas. Commissioners said both candidates could help, but they favored Rohner’s local Cascade ties and clinical perspective on community needs.

A motion to appoint Allison Rohner was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; commissioners announced the motion carried.

The new board appointee will join board members and working subcommittees that have been focusing on edits to the recreation strategic plan; commissioners said staff will keep both candidates in the circle for committee or future openings.
