Gateway board cites Publix approval, license‑plate readers and park upgrades in district report

At the Jan. 15 advisory‑board workshop, the Gateway Advisory Board summarized 2024 accomplishments and priorities for 2025, including a funded supermarket project, continued use of license‑plate reader (LPR) technology in coordination with police, park improvements and an arts grant.

Glen Hall, speaking for the Gateway group, said the board secured funding approval for a Publix anchored at the West Bridal Shopping Center and completed due diligence and survey work on a site at 4271 Peters River. He also reported that the district’s deployment of license‑plate readers and other police strategies corresponded with what the board described as a 49% drop in crime and a 124% increase in traffic citations in the district.

Hall thanked Police, Public Works and Parks staff for work on Kingsley Park upgrades, noting improved shade structures and exercise equipment, and said the board won a $50,000 grant for a mural project through the CFP (Business of the Arts) program.

Board goals listed in the report include corridor revitalization for State Road 7, improved safety for residents and businesses, increased economic activity, community engagement and compliance with legislative mandates. A council member asked for an update on a proposed car wash on State Road 7; the Gateway representative said the applicant is finalizing billing/permit steps and staff helped resolve FDOT issues.
