Dove Creek Elementary showcases PBIS house system; board honors students and staff

Dove Creek Elementary presented its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) house system, student speakers described house traditions, and the board recognized staff and teams including the North Oconee football state champions.
At the Jan. 13 meeting the board recognized multiple student- and staff-led accomplishments and heard a longer presentation from Dove Creek Elementary about its PBIS house system.
School leaders said Dove Creek has used PBIS since 2018 and implemented a house system for grades 3'5 designed to increase student engagement and character development. "Our PBIS motto, dragons are on fire: focus, inspiring, respectful, and empathetic, guides us daily," said Bailey Gravett, a third-grade teacher. Students described how houses are assigned, house meetings and the spirit activities tied to the program; leaders reported decreases in discipline referrals and strong survey results.
Assistant Principal Kim Griffith told the board the school saw survey results reporting 96.7% of students and 100% of staff feeling connected; she also reported academic growth with a CRPI content mastery measure rising from 91.3% in 2019 to 100% in 2024. The board separately recognized Mike Stanton of Colum Ferry Elementary as the January Pursuit of Excellence winner and honored the North Oconee High School football team and coaches for the Class 4A state championship, listing players and coaches.
The board thanked students and staff for the presentation and allowed fifth-grade students to perform a short sorting exercise during the meeting.
