Pinellas honors school board attorney David Kaperski with statewide award

The Pinellas County School Board on Jan. 14 honored School Board Attorney David Kaperski as the recipient of the Florida School Board Attorneys Association’s 2024 C. Graham Carruthers Award of Excellence.
John Palmarini, president of the Florida School Board Attorneys Association, presented the award and described Carruthers as a founder of the organization and an exemplar of service to school board attorneys statewide. Palmarini praised Kaperski’s judgment and willingness to assist colleagues, saying he frequently relied on Kaperski’s counsel during challenging issues. "Whenever I had a sticky issue, I would call David and we would talk it through," Palmarini said.
Board members offered remarks thanking Kaperski for his long service and accessibility to board members and constituents. Board Member Cain described Kaperski as calm and diligent during difficult moments; Board Member Peters and Vice Chair Edmond noted his leadership at the state level and his role in ethics training. Kaperski accepted the recognition and thanked the board for its support.
The board paused for a photo to commemorate the award.
