Board accepts conflict-of-interest disclosure from board member regarding transportation contractor

Board member Greg Burrows stated that his wife is the 100% shareholder of a transportation company that contracts with the school corporation. Counsel advised that Burrows had disclosed the relationship and that, because Burrows does not personally derive a direct pecuniary benefit, the disclosure suffices under the district’s transparency practice.
A motion to accept Mr. Burrows’ signed conflict-of-interest disclosure was made and seconded; the board voted by show of hands to accept the disclosure. The vote was recorded as unanimous for acceptance. Administration advised that the disclosure will be retained in board records.
