Pinellas reports 91.5% graduation rate and Seminole High band wins service award at Tournament of Roses

Superintendent Hendrick told the board on Jan. 14 that the Florida Department of Education released the 2023–24 high‑school graduation rates and Pinellas County Schools increased its rate to 91.5%, a 3.8 percentage‑point gain from the prior year. "We outpaced the state rate of 89.7% by nearly 2 percentage points," Hendrick said, noting the district’s work to close subgroup gaps and increase college credit and industry certification attainment.
Hendrick also congratulated Seminole High School and its principal, Dr. Jane Lucas, for the band’s performance in the 136th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. The superintendent said the band won the Michael D. Sewell Service Through Music Award and praised band director and students for their service and perseverance.
Hendrick highlighted district arts and STEM events coming up, including All County performances, student exhibits at local museums, and a STEM Explorer Fest at Largo Central Park on Jan. 18. He also reminded families that FAFSA assistance is underway and that district staff will support seniors completing financial aid applications.
The district framed these items as examples of the impact of school programs and the Pinellas County Schools referendum funding that supports facilities and extracurricular opportunities.
