High-school counselor Zach Frank presented proposed academic-handbook changes and dual-credit pathway additions to the board. The changes include making English 111 available to juniors, adding Creative Writing (English 202) as a semester elective for juniors and seniors, and introducing Advanced English (English 206) as a second-semester junior course. Mr. Frank said the program changes are possible because teachers have obtained or are completing required credentials and, in some cases, courses are transitioning from an IU-based provider to Ivy Tech.
Mr. Frank also said the high school applied for and received approval for a JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates) pathway; that will be added to the diploma/pathway options once implementation steps are completed. The board discussed how the pathway and expanded dual-credit offerings could help students accelerate postsecondary progress.
Superintendent Dustin Goering and other board members urged an active community outreach effort to publicize opportunities, saying the district’s early‑college options are a competitive advantage for families considering area schools. The academic-handbook changes and pathway additions were approved by voice vote.
