Members of the Manatawny Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a proposal to place an America250 patriotic marker on High Street at Hanover honoring Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair, who the presenters said maintained a home at that location and took part in Washington's 1776–77 campaigns.
The chapter described a slate of America250 activities including tree plantings, school programs, essay contests and a planned marker unveiling that the chapter suggested could coincide with Constitution Day on Sept. 17, 2025. Presenters showed examples of marker styles and said the chapter seeks permission and guidance to move forward; they emphasized the request at this stage is for staff authorization to explore the proposal, not final design or placement approval.
Council staff and solicitor said a motion for Monday's council meeting could authorize staff to proceed with background work and report back to council with permit, placement and design details; the committee agreed to add the matter to the Monday agenda. No final council decision on plaque design or installation occurred at the Committee meeting.
