The Franklin County Community School Corporation convened Jan. 13, 2025, and completed its organizational business, electing officers and confirming several administrative roles.
The Board of Finance met first and nominated Jessica Brennan to serve as president and Greg Burris as secretary. The Board of Finance vote was conducted by show of hands; the clerk recorded five in favor and two abstentions on the president and secretary appointments. The school board then convened at 7 p.m. and elected Kevin Kiser as president by a show-of-hands vote, with board members recording five in favor and two abstentions. Jessica Brennan was approved as vice president and Brandy Wilson as secretary by the same voting method. Kevin Kiser was also approved to serve as the corporation’s legislative liaison to the Indiana School Boards Association after a nomination and vote.
Superintendent Dustin Goering proposed the board meet on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m.; the board voted to set that schedule and time. Goering also recommended that Kendra Franks continue as Corporation Business Manager (serving as treasurer, deputy treasurer and extracurricular treasurer) and that Amber McMillan Orosco remain the corporation attorney; both appointments were approved by voice/show-of-hands votes.
Board members discussed per-diem compensation later in the meeting but left the existing annual per‑diem model unchanged (see separate article on compensation). No changes to the investment policy were requested at the meeting; the policy review was presented as a discussion item only.
Actions taken at this session were procedural and focused on leadership, scheduling and formal appointments required at the start of the year. All officer and appointment votes were recorded by show of hands and the affirmative motions carried as noted.
