Halifax County Human Relations Committee reports growth, outreach and planned trainings for 2025

Dr. Bridal, chair of the Halifax County Human Relations Committee, presented the group's 2024 annual report to the Board of Commissioners, outlining organizational changes, outreach and upcoming training plans.
The committee said it revised bylaws and earned official recognition from the North Carolina state HRC. In 2024 the committee issued monthly proclamations for national observances, participated in community festivals and media outreach, fielded two formal complaints that the committee forwarded to county management for follow up, and conducted team-building and strategic-planning retreats.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dr. Bridal said the committee intends to expand community engagement, hold forums for residents to voice concerns, pursue language-access research in partnership with the state HRC, and provide training on fair housing (planned for April) and crisis-management response (planned for June). The committee also said it hopes to include younger, nonvoting members and to host or attend regional HRC meetings.
The board accepted the annual report by motion and thanked the committee for its work.
