The West Athletic Booster Club told the board it plans to donate $33,604.72 in two phases to upgrade weight-room equipment that serves both East and West high school students and other students who use the campus facilities.
Superintendent Wimmer presented the Booster Club proposal in the absence of the athletic director. The donation would come in two installments: roughly $12,000 in January and the balance after the club's spring fundraiser (Chasing the Chill) in May. Phase 1 priorities include purchasing women's barbells and rubber-coated, color-coded plates to replace aging cast-iron plates; Phase 2 would add Olympic weight plates, professional barbells, storage and related equipment. The Booster Club provided vendor quotes and estimated roughly $3,000 to remove and recycle existing plates.
Board members asked whether the new equipment will require ongoing maintenance or create a larger staffing obligation. District staff and the Booster Club said the equipment is largely durable and that district strength-and-conditioning staff and facilities personnel would manage installation and typical care; some additional staff hours to unbox and install equipment were anticipated and could be offset by the donation. Board members repeatedly emphasized that upgraded equipment would be available to all students, not just athletes. Because the district requires board approval for donations in excess of $5,000, the board will place the donation on a future consent agenda for formal acceptance.
