Livonia council places parks and public-works equipment purchases, tree programs on consent

Parks requested authorization to waive sealed bidding and purchase new lobby furniture for the Jackie Kirksey Recreation Center from cooperative pricing in a not-to-exceed amount of $99,000. The Parks director said the center's furniture is original to the 23-year-old facility. The council placed the item on consent.
Public Works requested purchases of twelve soccer goal nets (assorted sizes) totaling $43,020.06 to outfit city fields; two Toro Field Pro baseball diamond groomers at a combined $76,761.78 to replace older equipment; and five Kohler mower units priced at $65,915. Council members discussed field assignments and noted some school-field ownership constraints; all items were placed on consent.
On trees and stump removal, Parks recommended awarding the 2026 Parks Tree and Stump Removal Program to Ashton Tree Service (Livonia firm) after the apparent low bidder failed to submit required bonding and references; council approved funds of up to $65,000 to cover the list and contingencies. For the 2026 right-of-way tree removal program, Wansy Tree Service (Alma) was the apparent low bidder: its 2026 bid was $228,484 and the 2027 price listed as $229,634; council placed the award on consent pending final procurement paperwork.
Council members commended staff and noted options to double up nets at certain parks where fields allow. All items were presented as cooperative purchasing or straight procurement under state or purchasing-cooperative pricing.
