Kings County proclaims November 2025 National Adoption Month; 52 adoptions expected this year

John Reyes, manager of the adoptions program at the Kings County Human Services Agency, asked the board on Nov. 4 to adopt a resolution proclaiming November 2025 National Adoption Month.
Reyes said National Adoption Month is a nationwide awareness effort and outlined the county unit’s work: the adoptions team includes three master’s‑level social workers and one supervisor and is responsible for assessing adoptability, matching children to permanent placements, and seeking permanence through adoption. He reported that the unit finalized adoptions for 42 court‑dependent children during 2025 and will finalize 10 more on Nov. 21, bringing the total to 52 for the year. Reyes added the unit is currently managing cases for approximately 70 dependent children.
Supervisor Robert Thayer moved to adopt the proclamation; Supervisor Joe Neves seconded. The clerk called the roll: Joe Neves, Doug Verboom, Rusty Robinson and Robert Thayer voted yes. The motion passed 4–0 with one member absent.
