Grant-funded arts program thanks county, cites school and community reach

A Flagstaff music and visual-arts project that received a county grant updated supervisors during Call to the Public, reporting presentations at a local elementary school, NAU and community venues and around 150 local participants.
Johnny Marcus, project lead for Traveling the Universe, told the Board of Supervisors during Call to the Public that his program received a 2025 grant from Coconino County and used it to present cross-cultural music and liquid-light visual arts to students and residents.
Marcus told the board the project gave three presentations to each fourth-grade classroom at Puente de Oso Elementary covering stars, planets, constellation stories and creation stories, and invited students to send musical greetings to possible life forms. He said roughly 150 county residents attended the series of presentations and more than 50 participated directly by playing music, trying the liquid-light technique, drawing or writing poetry.
The comments were a public update and did not ask the board to act. Marcus described performances at the Beavers Street Theater and Momentum Bridal Studios and outreach to NAU honors students and Guidance Center Flagstaff staff, and left copies of students artwork for the board to view.
