City Recorder Denise announced her retirement at the Morgan City Council meeting. Denise said her last official date is Jan. 1 and that she will be out of the office for a planned trip beginning Dec. 25; an open house to recognize her service is scheduled for Dec. 16 from 2–4 p.m. in the council chambers.
Council members and regional partners praised Denise’s long public-service career and her institutional knowledge. Multiple colleagues said Denise has been central to the city’s operations, agenda preparation, recordkeeping and training. "You are the glue," one county official said during public comment.
Staff said the recorder position has been posted and the city will move forward with hiring and a transition plan; staff noted the specialized experience Denise brings means a replacement will require time to onboard.
Council and staff thanked Denise publicly; the mayor and city attorney highlighted her years of service and offered thanks for professional collaboration.
