Board adopts nine updated district policies on second reading

Monticello —4 The Monticello School Board voted 6-0 to adopt nine district policies after second readings, covering open meetings and closed meetings; a new drug, alcohol and cannabis policy; staff development/mentoring; school weapons; nonresident student enrollment; student activities; student fundraising; student publications; and student promotion, retention and program design.
Director of Human Resources and Policy Rob Daneker led the review, noting that some changes reflect legislative updates (for example, language tied to Minnesota Statute Section 124D.3 for enrollment options) while other edits clarify local procedures. The new drug, alcohol and cannabis policy includes provisions the district would apply to contracted transportation providers and establishes a district expectation of vendor compliance where the district does not directly employ bus drivers. Daneker also said the student publications policy was revised to reflect recent First Amendment-related legislative guidance.
Casey Root moved and Jeff Hegley seconded the motion to approve the nine policies as a group; the vote was unanimous. Board members said the committee and administration had previously reviewed the drafts and that several local items had been moved to administrative handbooks where appropriate.
The adopted policies will be published in the district policy repository and implementations will follow established administrative practices.
