Monticello —4 The Monticello School Board approved 15 new Monticello High School course offerings designed to expand career-and-college pathways, CTE (career and technical education) options and advanced-placement electives.
Principals Matt Colwell and Laurie Hansen told the board the slate includes agriculture classes (Food and Animal Science A and B, Horticulture, Landscaping), AP Drawing, business management, intro to photography, AP Comparative Government, Law and Society, and several leadership and college-planning electives. The package is intended to provide a multi-year roadmap: some classes are ready for near-term adoption while others are foundation-building courses that will roll out over two to three years as facilities and prerequisites align.
"All of our courses aligned to either career and college planning, CTE, or including advanced courses within some departments," Hansen said, noting the district will use enrollment and student-survey data to determine which courses are offered in the 2025-26 course catalog.
Melissa Curtis moved to approve the 15 courses as presented; Casey Root seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
Administrators said some classes will require additional staffing, facilities or partnerships and that the district will phase implementation based on enrollment. The approval allows staff to begin placing the new offerings in the course catalog and to develop building-level implementation plans.
