Chief Parker and department personnel said the department researched the unit, inspected it and found it met operational needs; the unit would replace an aging vehicle (33 years old in service for the type of rig being replaced).
Council members asked staff to confirm the apparatus fund coding and availability; finance staff said the funds exist though accounting clean-up is underway to consolidate the separate accounts. Several firefighters and residents spoke in favor of immediate purchase, noting the department’s ability to be ready for mutual-aid deployments and local incidents.
A motion to purchase the engine carried on a voice vote (transcript: "Ayes have it").
