Monroe City Council on Feb. 11 voted to table action on a minimum-housing demolition petition for the property at 205 East Pfeiffer Street after prospective buyers said they are under contract and anticipate a March 28 closing and plan to rehabilitate the building.
Doug Britt, planning department, presented the inspection findings and a contractor estimate of $74,280.10 to repair the dwelling; the city—s tax valuation for the structure was $34,700, placing the repair estimate above the 50% statutory threshold. The property owner attended the minimum housing hearing and staff reported no permits or repairs by the December 9 compliance deadline.
A prospective purchaser who said he was under contract and had financing told council he intended to rehabilitate the building and could begin within 90 days. The applicant asked that the council delay action so the sale can close and renovations proceed. Council voted to table the matter until the April meeting and asked staff to monitor progress and report back.
