Lizette Jimenez and Parks staff described Amy's story and the community campaign. Staff said the Berni Parks Association raised $155,000 in 2024 to support the playground renovations and met the city's naming criteria. Jimenez described Amy, who had significant health and mobility challenges, and recounted how Amy's mother improvised so Amy could use an older swing; that moment inspired the campaign to make the playground more inclusive.
Councilmembers praised the public-private partnership behind the project and unanimously approved the naming resolution. The park dedication and naming recognize both the family's advocacy and the fundraising that helped complete the renovation.
