Commission approves parking variance for West Gray spa despite neighborhood opposition

Designer Gilbert Mieschley said the applicant reduced the spa program from six to three treatment rooms and that staff and operators plan to manage appointments to limit overlapping demand. Mieschley told the commission: "On the Second Floor, there are, it's a residence and the employee of the spa, will reside there and they don't have a car. In addition, we have, like, 5, parking. Before, we had only 3, so we increased that to 5, and we also added, a bicycle rack." The owner added that clients come by appointment only.
Neighbors testified to concerns about nearby neighborhood spillover parking but commissioners voted to approve the variance. Commissioners who supported the motion said the constrained site and the operational controls offered by the applicant mitigated spillover risk.
