Bledsoe Miller Community Center demolition underway; ARPA funding and bids came in under estimate

City Manager Bradley Ford and staff provided an update Jan. 21 on the Bledsoe Miller Community Center renovation (to be the Bledsoe Miller STEAM Center). Ford said demolition has begun and that the project was funded in part with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money, with a project budget of about $13.8 million.
Ford told council that construction bids were roughly $1 million under budget, leaving a positive contingency balance as the city proceeds through renovation of an older facility. Staff expects construction and re‑opening in roughly one year from the presentation date. Council members thanked staff and volunteers who participated in the Jan. 16 groundbreaking.
The update was informational; staff did not seek a council vote during the work session.
